Transnet regards heritage preservation as an investment and holds its pride in 150 years' worth of rich history, for the benefit of future generations. There are currently two transport museums in South Africa: the Outeniqua Transport Museum in George, and the Kimberly Transport Museum.

This museum boasts a unique display showcasing the history of Transnet, where visitors can enter the world of South African Railway history and admire some of the iron gems that once ruled South Africa's railway tracks.

Items on display include:

  • Steam locomotives and carriages from the bygone era:
  • Crockery, cutlery and silverware once used on these historic trains:
  • A collection of steam locomotive number plates, model trains and vintage cars:
  • A maritime exhibition:
  • As well as breath-taking paintings and photographs

The Outeniqua Transport Museum in George can also be booked for corporate and private events as well as be used as a vintage backdrop for wedding photography.
