Kagiso Morodi, a Transnet Foundation teacher intern programme candidate was born in the northern parts of Pretoria called Hammanskraal, Majaneng, Selosecha. As a young boy at both primary and lower secondary school Kagiso had the heart to be a good solver of mathematical problems but didn’t have the skills set. It was not until he went to Makgetse High School, where he met a brilliant and unique mathematics teacher called Mr Maroga.

As a young boy at both primary and lower secondary school Kagiso had the heart to be a good solver of mathematical problems but didn’t have the skills set. It was not until he went to Makgetse High School, where he met a brilliant and unique mathematics teacher called Mr Maroga.
Morodi says Mr Maroga did not spoon-feed them, but meticulously showed everyone how to apply the principles of mathematics in order to safely arrive at the answer.
“I was astonished by his methods and impressed to an extent that I wanted to be like him. He gave me hope, inspiration and the belief that I can be anything I want to be. I did well in mathematics and recently graduated for a BSc (mathematical sciences) degree at the university.
“Transnet Foundation and ETDP Seta invest in people like me to reach their ultimate goals of making a difference within our nation through the supply of a mixture of items that a trainee teacher would ever dream of. They provided for my tuition fee, books, accommodation, and pocket money, plus other study materials that help run progressive lessons.”
For his training Morodi was placed at the second top performing school in South Africa, Bishops College in Cape Town. The main aim of ISASA, Transnet Foundation and ETDP SETA placing me at this academic and sport college was for Kagiso to gain world class skills and techniques of teaching and also running a school.
Bishops College is an independent boys’ school with a strong academic ethos combined with a commitment to all-roundedness, and a proud record of achievements. It is a school excelling in many areas – academically, on the sports fields, and in a wide variety of social and cultural activities.
“I am grateful that Transnet Foundation and the ETDP SETA have invested in my education so that I can attain a teacher degree and go back to my community to empower young minds,” concluded Morodi.
